There are a lot of hoax emails going around at this time of year, warning of
potential frauds, viruses, scams etc, most of them are hoaxes that have been
doing the rounds for several years, and almost all of them will request that
you forward them on to all your friends / contacts
A simple method to detect if an email is a hoax is to do the following -
1 Copy and paste some uniquely identifiable text from the suspected email -
such as "My Badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged"
2. Paste this text in a search engine such as yahoo or Google with the word
hoax at the end - like this -
"My Badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged hoax"
3. Click search
4. From the resulting listed entries look for the ones from trusted security
firms such as Trend Micro, Sophos, Symantec etc and read their article
5. From the contents of the trusted article base your decision on whether to
send the email out
And most importantly if you find the email a friend has forwarded to you is
a hoax, reply back with these instructions and tell them how you sp[spotted
it was a hoax, also ask them to reply back to their sender with these
instructions as well, in fact SEND THIS EMAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND
CONTACTS AND LETS PUT A STOP TO FALSE HOAX EMAILS !!
